Laser Mines go live

New item: the Laser Mine

Humans can now deploy Laser Mines - plant a beam across a doorway and let the zombies do the rest. The mine was tuned hard over the day:

  • You must stand near a mine to pick it back up or knife it - no telekinetic disarms.
  • Knife strikes on mines register from real attacks, and the mine's hitbox matches its actual shape in any orientation.
  • Two mines can now sit half as far apart as before, so proper minefields are possible.
  • Starting a deploy while infection strikes you cancels it cleanly.

Communication and money

  • Humans and zombies can now hear and read each other for the whole round - talk your trash across the barricade.
  • Your money now shows in the native CS2 cash panel, capped at 99,999, and CS2's own kill/round cash awards are zeroed - ammo packs and the mod economy are the only income.

Quality of life

  • Menus close after you pick an option - except shop pages meant for multiple buys.
  • Maxed-out Warcraft experience purchases now get an honest "you are maxed" message.
  • No one gets stranded in spectators anymore - the server actively repairs your seat.
  • Fixed several server crashes, including one triggered by combat events and one by camera handling.

Mine placement is an art form. Doorways are your canvas.

The Plasma Gun arrives

New weapon: the Plasma Gun

Say hello to the Plasma Gun - a new custom energy weapon now available on Velheim. It joins the Bazooka and Golden AK on the unified custom-weapon system, which means it is granted reliably, keeps its look through role changes, and survives CS2 updates without breaking.

Fixes

  • The Survivor no longer drops the machine gun - the whole point of being the Survivor is keeping that thing.
  • Ammo-pack shop eligibility fixed: items you cannot use are no longer sold to you, and items you can use are no longer refused.

Website

  • The player website got centralized into one hub - server info, items, and modes all live in one place now at cs.velheim.com.

Plasma is just very enthusiastic electricity. Aim it at zombies, not friends.

Bazooka on your back, smarter bots

A fresh full deployment of the current gameplay, assets, and player persistence went live today, along with two visible improvements.

Bazooka presentation

  • The Bazooka's carrier geometry was rebuilt with stock-parity assets and a proper presentation state machine - it now sits correctly on players in third person through every phase of carrying, aiming, and firing.
  • The pistol holster is back where it belongs on player models.

Bots

  • Bots now play a variety of Warcraft classes instead of all picking the same one - filling out rounds feels less like fighting an army of clones.

Your ranks, ammo packs, and settings all carried over through the redeploy - if anything looks off, a reconnect should sort it.

The bots have diversified their portfolios. They still cannot aim on stairs.

The server remembers your loadout

Loadouts that stick

  • Your Human weapon choices now persist - pick your kit once and the server remembers it round after round.
  • Humans can once again pick up weapons lying in the world - map guns are fair game.

Balance

  • The Infection Bomb now bypasses armor - kevlar will not save you from the plague.
  • Freshly infected zombies get their claws promptly and reliably after their human gear is stripped, no matter how chaotic the transition.

Interface

  • The on-screen interface updates faster - countdowns and status text feel much snappier.
  • All Warcraft selectors now live in one shared action menu - one place for races, abilities, and shopping.

Bazooka

  • Swapped the Bazooka onto a sturdier native carrier and corrected the third-person mounting - it now sits properly on players instead of hovering at an artistic angle.

Your loadout is saved. Your dignity after a failed bunny-hop is not.

Golden AK polish and a faster server

Golden AK47

The Golden AK47 got a full polish pass: correct magazine size, proper tracers, and the genuine golden first-person finish now shows in your hands. It also settles into your loadout cleanly instead of flickering through states.

Performance

  • A major optimization pass moved heavy work off the main gameplay thread - role changes, admin snapshots, and effect bookkeeping no longer steal frames from the actual game. The server simply runs smoother.

Maps

  • The active roster was curated to maps where bots actually work, then the bot-capable Workshop maps were restored - fewer empty-feeling rounds.

Fixes

  • Grenade kills now show correctly in the kill feed.
  • Ammo pack balances can be edited on the web panel without breaking.
  • Better recovery when players disconnect mid-round, and sturdier infection inventory handling - fewer edge cases where a fresh zombie kept the wrong gear.

The Golden AK does not shoot golden bullets. We checked. Repeatedly.
